At long last, the ultimate sleep sack filled with 100% alpaca for thermal regulation and a GOTS-certified organic cotton shell has arrived. Designed with intention top to bottom with discerning parents in mind, the Chillpaca™ is unmatched in luxurious comfort, thoughtful features, and performance. Designed in Utah, crafted in Peru, the new standard in sleep sacks is available now in limited quantities.
The sleep sack market has problems.
Even if you spend north of $100 on a sleep sack, are you getting what you pay for? Is your child?
You may be getting more than you bargained for. Most sleep sacks rely on synthetic fills that trap heat and moisture. Polyester shells that degrade after a few wash cycles. Construction that prioritizes margin over function. Functionality that settles for what the competition has been putting out for years.
Your infant spends most of their hours sleeping — if you're using a sleep sack, there is no more important item in the crib. The gap between what has been available and what's now possible is significant.
Alpaca fiber performs differently.
Where synthetic materials trap heat, alpaca fiber responds to your baby's body temperature — insulating when cool, releasing moisture when warm. The result is a stable microclimate that promotes deeper, more consistent sleep.
The fiber is naturally hypoallergenic and remarkably durable. As soft as cashmere. No itch. No compromise.
The inner and outer shell matters too.
GOTS-certified organic cotton means no pesticides, no toxic dyes, and no chemical softeners. Just clean, breathable fabric against your baby's skin.

Features, Quality, Performance

DEPTH IN THE DETAILS

Looks simple, doesn't it?
This armhole gusset took us six months to develop.
Like most innovations, this started as a problem. We insisted on GOTS-certified organic cotton for environmental responsibility, safety, and luxury feel. That means the shell of the Chillpaca generally doesn't have much give, just like a hotel duvet.
In our initial tests, this meant that with a proper design to keep baby secure, putting on the sleep sack required a little too much effort for parents.
Over a period of months and multiple prototyping rounds, we developed this organic cotton stretch knit fabric especially for this purpose, to make it easy for caregivers to get baby in and out. What started as a challenge has turned out to be one of our key differentiators.
This is the kind of detail that saves you thirty seconds at 2am when you're half-asleep and your baby is squirming. Thirty seconds you're not struggling. Over hundreds of sleep sessions, that adds up to hours of your life and significantly less frustration.
We could have used snaps instead. Cheaper, easier to manufacture. But beyond the inconvenience of fumbling with fasteners thousands of times, snaps mean metal or plastic, neither of which belongs on an otherwise pristine organic and natural fiber garment. We'd rather engineer the solution properly than compromise our materials philosophy for manufacturing convenience.
INTENTIONAL DESIGN

Alpaca fiber is extraordinarily fine, approximately one-fifth the diameter of a human hair. That presents an inherent challenge: how do you contain it without compressing it and diminishing its performance?
Most quilted products use tight stitching patterns to prevent fill migration. That works fine for synthetic materials, but it negatively affects the advantages of alpaca fiber. The fiber's thermal regulation depends on loft, the ability to expand and trap air in its natural structure. Compress it too much and you lose the performance that makes alpaca special in the first place.
We developed our chevron quilting pattern through extensive testing, including independent laboratory verification. The pattern creates defined channels that prevent fiber migration while maintaining optimal spacing between stitch lines. When we tested tighter spacing, thermal performance dropped measurably.
We also verified thermal performance post-washing and confirmed negligible fiber escape, ensuring the design holds up over time.
The shell fabric itself is high thread count woven GOTS-certified organic cotton, dense enough to serve as a true barrier for the ultrafine alpaca fibers. **The result is a quilted surface that allows the alpaca fill to do what it does best: **regulate temperature naturally, wash after wash, year after year.
RESPONSIBLE INNOVATION

Most sleep sack manufacturers treat the zipper as an afterthought and a place to cut costs. We saw it as an opportunity to fundamentally improve the parent experience.
The Chillpaca features a custom-manufactured YKK NATULON Plus® two-way zipper that's significantly longer than standard sleep sack zippers (it's not close). In our Little size (0-6 months), it's approximately 9 inches longer than comparable products. In the Medium (6-18 months), that extends to 11.5 inches of additional length. In the Big (18-36 months), the difference is a full 16 inches. This means effortless (well, we do what we can) diaper changes. You can unzip from the bottom without having to fully open the sleep sack and disturb baby.
Beyond the length, the two-way functionality gives you complete flexibility. Open from the top for dressing, from the bottom for quick access at night, or both. Zipper garages at both ends are sewn in to protect delicate skin, prevent snagging, and guard against unintentional opening.
And beyond performance, **this zipper is consistent with our commitment to sustainability. **NATULON Plus® contains the highest level of recycled content on the market—100% post-consumer recycled material in both the coil and tape. This translates to substantially lower greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and energy consumption compared to virgin materials.
A COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH

Most brands don't think twice about their labels—using whatever polyester tag is cheapest and calling it done. We think that's absurd, especially when you've invested in an organic sleep sack for your baby.
Why would we wrap your baby in pristine alpaca fiber and GOTS-certified organic cotton, only to put a synthetic label against their delicate neck? It makes no sense.
Our neck label is 100% undyed organic cotton, printed with soy-based inks. It's exceptionally thin and soft—designed to be as unobtrusive as possible. Critically, it's also unmodified by chemical anti-fray coatings, which means no petrochemical treatments against your baby's skin. If your baby does happen to come in contact with it (babies move!), there's no scratchy polyester edge or chemical-treated fabric to irritate their neck.
This is also where regulations work in favor of lazy manufacturing. Label materials often aren't required to be disclosed in garment composition breakdowns, so many "100% organic" products are actually dotted with polyester tags. We saw that loophole as an opportunity to do better.
Details like this might seem small, but they add up. Every touchpoint matters when it's against your baby's skin.
SUPPLY CHAIN
The Chillpaca is made in Peru by skilled artisans with deep expertise in alpaca textiles. We partner with manufacturers who pay fair wages, maintain safe working conditions, and share our standards for construction and materials.
We chose Peru for a reason. The country has centuries of tradition working with alpaca fiber—knowledge that simply cannot be replicated in a factory optimized exclusively for speed and cost. Every Chillpaca is produced in limited quantities and inspected by hand before it ships.
We know where our materials come from. We know personally who makes our products.

SAFETY & QUALITY ASSURANCE
We don't ask you to take our word for it. Every claim we make about the Chillpaca is backed by independent laboratory testing conducted by IDFL, a globally recognized textile testing institute:
Thermal performance — Testing confirmed the Chillpaca's insulation rating at 1.8 TOG, placing it in the ideal range for nursery environments between 65-72°F.
Hypoallergenic — Unlike sheep's wool, alpaca fiber is free of lanolin — the substance responsible for most wool allergies. Turbidity testing confirmed our fill is clean and free of residual oils and particulates that can irritate sensitive skin.
Flammability — The alpaca fill passed ASTM D1230 flammability testing with a Class 1 rating. The material did not ignite. No chemical flame retardants required.
Durability — Tensile strength testing per ASTM D5034 confirmed the shell fabric exceeds requirements for repeated wear and washing.
We pursued this testing voluntarily. Regulations don't require most of it. We did it anyway—because we needed to know, and we believe you deserve to know too.

The Chillpaca and this company exist because we couldn't find a sleep sack that met our standards, as parents or as people who believe kids' products deserve real engineering, not just pastel colors and cute packaging.
So we made one.
We source high-grade alpaca fiber from the Peruvian highlands. We spent two years developing the right fill weight, the right quilting pattern, the right shell fabric. We tested. We revised. We started over more than once.
The Chillpaca is the result: a sleep sack built the way we think all baby products should be.
